Find the Courage to Face the Hard Truths

In the wake of the past few years, it’s not surprising that trust has taken a hit within organizations.

Trust is vital to the success of any workplace.

As Warren Buffet said, “Trust is like the air we breathe – when it’s present, nobody really notices; when it’s absent, everybody notices.”

The consequences of low trust are far-reaching. When employees lose trust, their decisions are often guided by suspicion and self-interest, leading to a decline in performance.

Leaders cannot simply tell employees to trust them; they must show it through their actions. Creating a culture of high trust takes time, patience, effort, and the courage to deal with the mistrust head-on.

🔓 That's why this week's Latch Unlock is: Find the Courage to Face the Hard Truths.

For better or worse, Latch serves as a mirror, reflecting back to leadership what is going on in the organization. Over the past few weeks, that’s exactly what’s been happening with one of our clients. Through planning upcoming Latch content and reviewing feedback on launches around employee recognition, one thing kept surfacing again and again – a lack of trust and a sense of unfairness

This also showed up in their pulse survey results when we asked two questions about trust. It appeared that most people were in agreement that they can voice opposing views and express themselves – which is a good thing!

But as you dig into the survey data and compare it to the leadership team’s aspirations for the type of culture they want to have, having 20% and 22% answer anything but “Agree” or “Strongly Agree” was simply unacceptable to the leaders.

Distrust and unfairness is a hard truth for any leader to face, but in response, this courageous CEO decided to reroute the plan to address this issue head-on.

Considering SHIFT’s roots are in consulting and we’ve spent the last 20 years helping leaders and employees develop skills, our Principal Consultant Sarah recorded a video for this week’s Latch launch that was all about trust and fairness.

Check it out here.

Feel free to leverage this video in one of your future Latch launches – or – hit our team up to brainstorm content that will help you face and address the hard truths in your organization.
