At SHIFT, we believe there is merit in going beyond the current patterns of corporate social responsibility and giving back in different, important ways. We believe it’s time to stretch further, set the bar higher, and make a shift. Period.
Over the past 15 years, we have partnered with more than 100 organizations and contributed more than $1MM in time, talent, and treasure.
It all started in 2002 with the launch of our Bb4students program, a not-for-profit that was one of the nation’s first social enterprise models in the corporate mentoring space.
Our model rested on the belief that giving back shouldn’t be free.
We partnered with well-known companies like Constellation Energy, DAP, The Daily Record, Sylvan Learning Center, and Under Armour. They made a financial contribution to our cause, and in return, got to mentor Baltimore City’s at risk youth.
In just 4 years, we personally worked face-to-face with more than 100 high school students and successfully shifted the average graduation rate from 55% to 100%. In 2006, we merged with a local not-for-profit with a national footprint (and brand recognition) with high hopes they could help us scale our dream. Unfortunately, this merger failed.
But we marched on.
We believe the world’s greatest issues can and will be solved by people with the courage to shift the purpose of business. We believe this starts with us. We’re going ALL IN to change the world for better.
On September 25th 2015, world leaders enthusiastically adopted 17 Sustainable Development Goals to end poverty, protect the planet, and ensure prosperity for all, as part of a new 15-year agenda. We were there, in both body and spirit.
These 17 initiatives represent the bedrock of SHIFT’s triple-cornerstone impact: our mission, the SHIFT 10X Effect, and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR).
