This week at eQ, as we quickly approach the holiday, gratefulness has been a buzz word – and there’s been a lot of talk around it. Now, with Thanksgiving only a day away, it seems fitting to take some time to reflect on all the things in life we have to be grateful for.
Thanksgiving is one of my favorite holidays, for two reasons:
1. I absolutely love the food; and
2. I get to spend the entire day with my family and the people I hold dear to my heart.
But this year, I have even more to be grateful for than usual. It’s been an immense pleasure to work with some truly amazing people and businesses all year long. I’m also grateful for all the new faces at eQ, and equally as grateful to have had the opportunity to get to know all the people who have moved on from eQ.
Gratitude is a funny thing sometimes. We tend to really focus on it around the holiday season, but it should be a mindset we carry with us all year long. I talked about it in Grow Regardless, and it’s still such a pertinent mindset to have. It will never go out of style. It will always be relevant. For me, in the years since I published Grow Regardless, a mindset of gratitude has become even more important to me.
Being grateful can help you in all aspects of your life – personal and professional. Which is why I want to offer you the chance to take this test and find out your “Gratitude Quotient.” The test was created by renowned psychologist Robert Emmons to determine your level of gratitude.
Emmons is also advocating something called #GivingTuesday, and says, “Even though I’ve advocated a number of evidence-based practices, I’m actually moving away from prescribing specific practices and exercises because it can lead to what I am calling ‘to-do list’ gratitude or ‘check-list’ gratitude. Practicing gratitude becomes a burden rather than a blessing, making life heavier rather than lighter.”
I can’t stress enough how important gratitude is in our lives. This year as you’re sitting down at the table with your loved ones – really give thanks. Give thanks for all the people in your life, for all the things in your life that make it incredible. I know I will.
Wishing everyone a very happy and gratitude-filled Thanksgiving!
